The 4th Xinjiang China International Art Biennial

As a highly anticipated event in the art world, the Xinjiang International Art Biennale has, since its inception, undergone three editions of growth and development, gradually becoming an important platform for the exhibition and exchange of con- temporary art from home and abroad in Xinjiang. The theme of the 2024 4th Xinjiang Biennale, Pulse of the Hinterland , aims to reveal how the cultural, historical, and natural resources of the land can be charged with vitality and creativity within the con- text of contemporary art, once again conveying its infinite possibilities at the crossroads of cultures to the world.

In the current context of rapid globalization and digitalization, where diverse non-central cultural phenomena are blending and where ecological and environmental issues are receiving significant atten- tion, this Biennale's theme, Pulse of the Hinterland, is organized into four major thematic units: Digital Station, Ecological Cipher, Intelligence Integration of the Silk Road, and Collaborative Resonance along with a parallel unit, Symbiotic Realm: 100 Years of Xinjiang Art and Contemporary Observations To- gether, these units create a multidimensional plat- form for artistic exploration. Beyond showcasing topics widely discussed in the contemporary art world, they embody our deep concern for the shared future of humanity. Through diverse creative forms, emotional expressions, and profound thoughts, the Biennale aims to lead people to reflect on their rela- tionship with the world. In this process, art not only responds to reality but also actively participates in and contributes to the future.

The arrival of the Fourth Xinjiang International Art Biennale represents a summary and a new break- through from the achievements of previous editions, and a profound outlook on the future. Not only has it achieved qualitative leaps in scale and influence, but it has also made breakthroughs in content and form. Hosting the Biennale in Xinjiang is an homage and recognition of the culture and art of this land, affirming its status as a cultural crossroads. Situat- ed in the heart of the Eurasian continent, Xinjiang is a crucial node of the ancient Silk Road and a bridge for the exchange of different civilizations and cultures. Here, art can transcend the constraints of time and space, showcasing unique cultural rhythms and creative potential.

Pulse of the Hinterland is not just an exhibition theme; it is a comprehensive examination of the rich cultural, historical, and natural resources of Xinji- ang. Through artistic expressions, we could gain a deeper understanding of the unique charm of this land and its significant position in contemporary art. We hope that this Biennale will inspire more at- tention and love for Xinjiang, promoting the contin- uous pulsation of art in this hinterland and creating new splendors.
